iPod Nano 6G For Running And Working Out

Gear: iPod Nano 6G.

Working out is part of my routine. I have owned several media players including: Zune (1st gen), Samsung P2, Cowon S9, and a Palm Pre. I have enjoyed the features that each of those media players had to offer, however there are features that are not great, and I think the Nano 6G improves.

I do not like big media players when running. If I put the player in my pocket it bounces and becomes uncomfortable, getting an armband has never worked quite well for me, and carrying the player in my hand makes me run a little weird. The Nano 6G has a very small size and that means that I can place it in a pocket and not feel uncomfortable during my runs.

I could use something like the Apple Shuffle, but sometimes I just need a menu because of different audio types. Like many other media players the Nano 6G offers a touch screen, and this makes a big difference when browsing through different audio categories like books, podcasts, playlists, radio, etc.

The clip.

One of the things I have wanted to love about the Nano 6G is the clip. It works for the wristband idea, but it does not work well for attaching the Nano to clothes.

Apple promised about 24 hours of audio playback with the Nano 6G and that is possible, but when you use a bright touch screen the battery is reduced by a lot. What I can determine with this is that it will work fine for long runs as long as the touch screen is not being used. The Nano 6G does support earphone remote controls.

The 6G also has Nike+ features. With Nike+ you can track walks and runs and track the data with your computer. The 6G can be used as a pedometer throughout the day. I do not think the accuracy for the runs will be accurate, but it should give a decent approximation.

There many different colors to choose from including: blue, green, orange, pink, silver, graphite, and red ('product red'). The 8GB version of the Nano may not be enough if you want to a lot of content, so I recommend the 16GB version.

I have never been the biggest fan for Apple products, but they are really coming out with some very sleek products.
