I have read in several articles and forum posts that the X201 is "slow". The Core i5 and i7 CPUs are fast enough for most computing tasks. There is something that dos limit the CPU, and that is Lenovo's Power Controls.
Usually pc manufacturers install some kind of "power management" software to control the CPU speed and thus conserve battery life. By default the Power Controls are set to have a balance, and this balance reduces the full potential of the CPU. My recommendation is to tweak the settings to fit your needs.
How to tweak power settings on the X201T:
- Press the Win Key
- Type "Lenovo Power Controls" and open it.
- Tweak settings on "Basic" or "Advanced" to speed the CPU.
On Basic mode all that is required from you is to move the slider to allow "Intel Turbo Boost Technology". The full potential of the system is achieved when Intel Turbo Boost is active.
Windows Experience Index can be affected by Lenovo Power Controls.
I had to do something similar with the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T.
