Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet - Images and a few comments

May I present to you... the Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet!  I woke up this morning with a big package at my door.   I wasn't expecting this guy to be here especially because most high profile tech blogs do not have it yet.  Here's some images which should be among the first outside of Lenovo headquarters.

The screen only goes one way with this version.  The screen's quality has improved a lot, and it's a 12.5 inch at 1366 x 768.

There are many changes on positions.  The power port has been moved to the rear, and there's more vent holes to keep the system cool.

The battery does extend behind the system which gives it a nice "grip" so you can carry the system.  The battery's width doesn't go the full length this time.

Changes on the front including a flushed bezel with the screen, screen buttons changed to only three, minimal indicator lights (I love it), and keyboard has changed too.

The system still includes the finger print reader, and a big change is the speakers are now located on the screen's bezel.

The screen rotates only one way, the hinge also looks to be sturdier than the X201 Tablet

Trackpoint buttons are now slimmer.  The touchpad is bigger and features a dotted texture, left and right click are under the touchpad.

The X220 features Lenovo's Enhanced Experience which allows blazing fast sleep/resume times.
The system that I got is a Core i5-2520M CPU @ 2.5Ghz (4 CPUs)

If I need to extend my battery life I can attach this handy Lenovo ThinkPad 19+ battery slice.  According to some blogs you can get up to 20 hours of total battery life.

So far the system has performed better than the X201 Tablet that I got loaned.  There's a clear graphics performance improvement.  And for those that just need to know about the system's digitizer/touch... it's a Wacom based tablet.  (rejoice because N-Trig is still not there yet).

Thanks to Jeff Witt and Steven McLane for working with me.  I'll post a video once it finishes rendering and uploads to Youtube.

Lenovo made some stupid changes with this.

Fewer indicator lights. (Why??)

Fewer buttons. No more buttons to program.

Unidirectional screen - not horrible, but still a step back.

Loss of the latch is bad but tolerable.

Small screen with a huge bezel.

Double power switches (WTF??? Why?) without a lock. Either give it a lock like the X201, or make it a slider like on the Fujitsus.

Poor slice design (designed for the laptop, doesn't go all the way on the tablet). They should have made another slice for the tablet.

They did do a lot of changes. There are pros and cons to it.

For me the LED light indicators are mostly an annoyance that I wish were always on the side were no one can see them.

The X60 ones had this neat programmable joystick thing that I wish was kept on the following systems.

Accidentally hitting that power button can be annoying... but I never did. In comparison I have moved the Fujitu T580's Power Slider accidentally a few times.

In a way it does feel like they rushed the system. Lenovo did make a few other slate tablets.
